EUSA Scholarship Recipients

...and the winners are?

Edison United Soccer Association (EUSA) is proud to award a minimum of $500 in scholarship funds to our deserving youth.  The EUSA Scholarship Fund was established as a means to encourage our soccer youth to pursue their full potential through continued education.

All the applications we receive continue to demonstrate that we are blessed with talented young people who embody the ideals of EUSA and who continue to have a positive impact in our community.

Through the involvement of soccer, our youth continue to demonstrate lessons of integrity, endurance, community, perseverance, dedication, teamwork, good sportsmanship, compassion and leadership.  But most of all, they have become the role models and mentors for the next generation.

Good luck to all of you in all your endeavors!  We are proud to have you as part of the Edison United Soccer Association Family!

Jessica Jansen is a graduating senior of Edison High School.  Jessica will be attending Middlesex County College’s Business Program.  “Life will always have wins and losses, and knowing how to properly show acceptance of either has been well-learned through youth sports over the years,” Jessica states. “I know that all the various lessons of endurance, perseverance, dedication, teamwork, good sportsmanship, compassion and leadership taught to me while participating in youth sports will be valuable assets as I pursue my career. Each of these lessons learned can be directly applied to the business world and to life in general. I feel that my experiences in youth sports over the years have helped to form the type of person I am today and the type of adult whom I hope to be in the years ahead in my chosen career.”

Jeremy Kashan is a graduating senior of John P. Stevens High School. Jeremy will be pursuing a degree in Television, Radio and Film Making at Rowan University. “Soccer has been my passion since I was five years old,” states Jeremy. “From learning the value of teamwork, to teaching me the importance of personal responsibility, youth sports have helped me grow as a person. I am grateful for not only these lessons, but for the opportunities that I have received to play the sport I love; and most of all, to have fun.”

Brian Garsh is a graduating senior of John P. Stevens High School. Brian will be attending the College of New Jersey’s Chemistry Program. “I know how much time and effort it takes to shape a child’s future. I have always wanted to be someone that influences children and guides them on the right path.” Brian also notes,” Soccer has really helped shape my future in athletics and has encouraged me to continue my athletic career. As a student athlete, I have participated in various noteworthy activities such as Lainie’s Angels Kicks for Kids with Cancer and Blood Disorders and soccer clinics organized by EUSA. These charitable events have allowed me to give back to my community and pass some of my skills on to younger players while playing the game with which I grew up. I will be able to look back at this experience and see the positive results of teamwork and what can be accomplished when you create bonds with teammates.”

Ryan Beckish is a graduating senior of John P. Stevens High School. Ryan will be pursuing a Forensics degree at Middlesex County College. “As I get older, I realize how important a good education is to me,” states Ryan. “Professions nowadays can be difficult to earn due to our economy and stiffer competition. But, I feel that if you love it and enjoy it, you should stick to your goals and eventually the perfect occupation will become available. I have learned that nothing in life comes easy, but with the right attitude and dedication, you can follow your priorities and goals to further better yourself. “

2009 Scholarship Recipients

Recipients were chosen based on academics, community involvement and essays.

Emily F. is a graduating senior of JP Stevens High School.  Emily will be attending the University of Maryland’s Communication Program focusing on communication and social change.  “I learned to fail just as much as I learned to succeed from soccer. Yet I was always able to hold my head high, and never be ashamed of the way I had handled myself during the game,” states Emily. “Soccer is a game of communication; in order to be successful, everybody on the team has to talk, to communicate in some manner so that players get marked and passes get made. The teamwork and leadership skills that I have picked up from soccer will also prove worthwhile in this field since speeches are often researched, drafted, and finalized in teams.”

Jillian Beer is a graduating senior of Edison High School. Jillian will be pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy. “Soccer and youth sports have given me so much,” states Jillian, “soccer has given me the wisdom and determination to reach my dreams and goals. The sport has also given me the idea for my career path, which is to become a doctor of physical therapy. The impact sports have had on my past, present and future could have never been replaced by another activity. Without games on Saturdays throughout the year and playing soccer in the rain or waking up at the crack of dawn to step on the ice, I feel I would not be the woman writing to you today.”
